THE WALL – BURNHAM-ON-SEA TOWNSCAPE
The sea front of Burnham-on-Sea showing the full length of the sea defences and the town. ‘The Wall’ stretches from the mouth of the River Parrett, down to the end of the sea front in the north. The wall was built in 1981 after a great storm destroyed the original sea front flooding many areas of the town. The new wall and steps replaced a concrete and stone slope and provides the town with a robust defence of the waves. The picture is a bright still reflective view of the town in more tranquil times. The wall and beach as viewed from the bay looking back to the town showing the many recognisable buildings including the famous leaning church tower and England’s shortest Victorian pier…
